Smaller isnt useful?
"LOL a fleet of destroyer n00bs" a pilot was recently quoted as saying when encountering the PVP-WOLFPACKS class. 5 minutes later he was in his clone and his faction raven was a pile of flaming wreckage.
Believe what you want, but to ignore the real risks involved in PvP is just short-sighted.
You complain about blobs, then brag about the dangers of PvP. You're not seeing the forest for the trees here.
As long as people are effectively losing hours, days, or weeks of work when they lose a ship in combat they will look for ways to minimize that risk. Bringing lots of friends to the fight is perhaps the easiest way to do that.
Now me personally, I don't fly big ships. I stick with AF's and Dictors and Inty's, cheap(er) ships that I can replace with a day or two of ratting. IOW, I fly what I can afford to lose.
But small ships don't claim and hold 0.0 space, and when billions of ISK are on the line common sense dictates that pilots be as cautious as they can.
What you're asking for is that people ignore the obvious benefits of bringing more numbers to the fight without giving them a good reason for not doing so.
While I don't PvP yet, I have no real insentive yet, I can defintly see an advantage of tactics over numbers, if for the reasons that the net loss in Isk would be far less.
As for loseing hours of work, thats what insureance is for. and as for little ships not being able to claim 0.0 space, they can. With the right tactics and an experienced commander, and the right equipment, it could be done. What those tactics are I don't know it would depend on what was avalible to the commander and what was being defended, if it was a two jumpgate system a fleet of what 40 sniper frigs could hold a system for a few days before reinforcements were needed? And that is just off the top of my head, wether that is a viable tactic I don't know lol.
